Pelosi Wants Gulfstream Jets and the Pentagon Objects

Our political royalty deserves nothing but the best. Gulfstream jets for summer overseas travel seems to be the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed. Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette would have approved. But the Pentagon disapproves of “additives”.

US Representative John Murtha and the Congressional Gulfstream Jets. .. see also Politico.com which iterates the Pentagon statement. It appears the increase to $550 million purchases from $220 million were initiated by House Appropriations as the WSJ indicates. These seem to very luxurious jets for our political royalty.

This statement by Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell in a front page article in the  Wall Street Journal is striking because the Pentagon is challenging Congress not only on Gulfstream luxury jets but also Earmarks. This is not an anonymous leak but a direct confrontation with Congressional privileges. It appears the Military are getting annoyed with being pushed around by the Congressional Elite. Congress is the hand that feeds the Pentagon so it is stunning that the Pentagon is biting that hand.

“…the Department of Defense didn’t request the additional planes and doesn’t need them. “We ask for what we need and only what we need,” he told reporters Wednesday. “We’ve always frowned upon earmarks and additives that are above and beyond what we ask for.”
