Earmarks for the Faithful

Like King Louis XVI, John Murtha disperses pork to his the Dukes and Duchesses of the Murtha Court. Jenna Portnoy of the Bucks County Courier Times has done a nice job of reporting a story of Earmarks and Pork and John Murtha’s long reach to Representatives Allyson Schwartz and Patrick Murphy.
For example, Patrick Murphy and Allyson Schwartz and eight other members of Congress requested a 2008 earmark worth $5.6 million for military skin decontamination powder that a Seattle Times investigation revealed to be inferior to a lotion form of the product.
“Murphy said local companies can withstand Obama’s call for competition. ’When a company in Bucks County comes to me and says I can make this fireproof glove or bulletproof vest, I’m confident that the companies in Bucks County will be able to secure and be competitive,’ he said. ‘If they’re not, that’s fine. If someone else beats them out, then they beat them out. I just want the best for our soldiers. Period.’ “ Perhaps, Rep. Murthy would consider that military rather than a lobbyist, knows what’s best for the military.
