Stop the Spending!

Please sign the Petition circulated by Lower Merion Commissioner Brown to stop the spending.

I understand that a 1000 Lower Merion residents have done so already.

Automated trash collection is in use in many other municipalities, is a proven technology and will save money for those using municipal trash collection, approximately 16, 792 of the 23, 400 households in Lower Merion. It is not clear why this policy was defeated by majority of LMBOC. For some reason, Bruce Reed opposed this and, of course, the other Democrats followed his lead.

Some commissioners pointed out that this decision could be revisited. For some reason, the majority is determined to proceed with the twenty four million dollar library renovations, including nine million for Ludington Library, and not postpone that decision to revisit when Township finances are in better shape. We are facing $5.5 million deficit and 15 to 22 % increase in taxes and LMBOC not only does not cut expenditures but adds to them with $900,000 for a private development Amtrak-SEPTA train station, a parking lot, supposedly for commuters, and a Mini Mall of apartments and retail stores.

What is the majority thinking? This is not the time to increase spending. The Forgotten Taxpayer is being hammered from too many sides, Federal, State, Local and the economy itself.
